SPORT ON FRIDAYS! A GREAT WAY TO KICK OFF THE WEEKEND

The 2nd Annual Inter-Departmental Sports Competition kicked off on the 26th of September 08 at ‘Apifo’ou College. The MA’ALAHI – It’s so easy Health sport team was amongst the competitors of 17 Departments.

510 people from 17 different Ministries and local businesses enjoyed an aerobic warm up provided by the Ma’alahi Health Promotion Unit before competing in games of Netball, Volleyball and Touch Rugby, both single sex and mixed teams.

“Everyone proved the enjoyment and overwhelm motion of starting this year event. We saw the spirit of being representing each respective department and unity amongst staff” says Lord Kalaniuvalu, Chairman of the Interdepartmental Committee.

“This is a great way to continue to promote healthy activity” says Eva Mafi, Secretary of the Committee; “All it takes is 30 mins a day of regular exercise and you are already making a difference to your life – It’s so easy!”

The Ministries represented on Friday included: The Ministry of Health, Ministry of Works; Ministry of Justice and Crown Laws; Ministry of Finance; Ministry of Transport; Ministry of Youth and Sport; Audit

Department; Prime Minister’s office; Public Service Commission; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Customs and Revenue; Ministry of Land and Survey; Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Farms and Fishing; Ministry of Labour and Commerce Industry; Palace Office; Leiola Duty Free; and Tonga Communication Corporation.

The Competition will run every Friday afternoon until November 28th from 4pm to 6pm. The event is overseen by the Inter-departmental Sports Committee as recognised by the Cabinet.

It’s so easy to do exercise for at least 30 min daily, and enjoy of being active.
