As part of the efforts to develop technical capacity for implementing national TB control plans, the Region has proposed an initiative to establish Centers of Excellence in countries with a high burden of TB, which have shown evidence of achieving excellence in specific technical areas, and can function as training and technical resource centres for other countries. This Initiative is envisaged to be country-driven, thus, the need for establishing oversight mechanism by national TB programme managers, with support from international partners.

At the end of the consultation, the participants will have:

(1) discussed perspectives of national TB programmes on the concept and plan to establish Centres of Excellence.
