Singapore is a small country with a total land area of about 700 square kilometres. The total population is about 4.24 million, with a resident population of 3.49 million in 2004. Singapore has a relatively young population, with only 8% of the resident population above 65 years of age. However, the percentage over 60 years of age is projected to increase to 27% by the year 2030.
