Macao (China) is formed by a small peninsula on the southern coast of China in the delta formed by two long rivers, the Pearl River and the West River. The territory is composed of peninsular Macao, the islands of Taipa and Coloane, and the embankment area between the two islands named Co Tai. The total land area of Macao is 27.3 square kilometres. In 2003, the population was 448 495. The annual population growth rate was 1.55%.
